Birth of 'Go Kodai'

It all started when a group of like minded people met at Cafeteria. At first, Ooty was most voted among other destinations around Karnataka. It became a fun filled discussion when we met for tea break at KB cafeteria. All we know was, we all are interested. But few folks, not few, but most of them were not confident enough and thought that we'll never make it to any place as most of them had several experience of such discussions which never come to fulfillment. But hey friends, this time we are going. After a long unwinding discussion of hours, days, coffee talks, jabber messages and mails, we have decided to go Kodai.

Fun filled discussions and debates are still going on during tea breaks. As the communication and participation's from all fronts and individuals are progressing, we had decided to collect Rs 2000 as advance which facilitates us to proceed with booking of traveller and reserving rooms at Kodai. As this is a collective effort, everyone are doing their best to make this possible in a best way.

Do you know why we have choose Kodaikanal as the destination ???

Its mostly suggested by Ramprasad followed by others. One reason was that, if destination is Kodai, Ram can take full charge of good accomodation for all. Eventhough distance is the more, Kodai is said to be more beautiful and less crowded than Ooty. But.... but ..... but.... even though destination is fixed as Kodai, Ramprasad cannot join us during the planned weekend, he'll be busy with his important family function. :(

Inspite less substance to materialize the plan, a lot of chit chat took place about a possible date which is convenient for all. Few stuck with their project activities, few with other engagements, etc, all I can say is Saravana and Murali was ready to make this happen at any cost. Other sureshots were Annasamy, Deva (old man), Vikas and Me. Confidence started building from this level when we realized that we 6 are ready for a trip, no matter which place it is or what will be the cost. Luckily we have a 7 seater product in India, ie, Toyota Innova. We kicked off from here and sent out an email, communicating our plan about 'Go Kodai' program to other friends who showed interest in this before. To my surprise, Prasanta showed extreme interest and even initiated to include Krushna and Ramesh as they were in a dilema. Since its all about like minded people joining for a trip, we dont wanna miss our ex-team mate, Kathiravan (confirmation pending as he's still busy with delivering his project at right time). Do you know what, after receiving first mail from us, Mahesh and Prabhakar has shown interest, thus proving that there are lot of other people as well with same mindset, who are ready to take part in such events. Even Niladri from my team has shown interest and repeatedly adviced us to inform him if such events happen in future.

Few things about Kodai

Kodaikanal is sometimes referred to as the "Princess of Hill stations" and is a popular tourist destination. Kodaikanal stands in a 2,195 m (7,202 ft) high basin at the southern edge of the central part of the Palani Hills in the Western Ghats. Kodaikanal is at the top of a steep 2,000 m escarpment which is dramatically visible from Pillar Rocks. Due to its high altitude, Kodaikanal has a temperate subtropical climate. Surface temperature varies from moderate to quite cool. Kodaikanal is a romantic hill station for the newlyweds to go for a honeymoon. An artificial star shaped 45 ha. (60 acres) lake built in 1863 is located close to the centre of town. Next to the lake is Bryant Park, a botanic garden. Rowing boats and pedalos and riding horses can be hired. A five-kilometer path that skirts this lovely lake is a favourite walk. Kodaikanal is near the center of the proposed 736.87 km² Palani Hills National Park. The Kodaikanal Solar Observatory is at the highest location near Kodai. A former director John Evershed, discovered the phenomenon of radial motion in sunspots, now known as the Evershed effect. The kodaikanal Terrestrial Telescope can view the complete surroundings of the hills which covers sothupparai dam, Vaigai Dam, periyakulam, Varaha river etc. Green Valley View (previous name was changed for better appeal to tourists), Pillar Rocks, Silver Falls, Kodai Television tower and the Guna caves (made popular by the Tamil movie Guna) are popular places where many tourists visit. The Kurinji Andavar temple is famous for its Kurinji flower which blossoms only once every 12 years. The blums, Berikke, Kodai milagaay, Red carrot are the most common natural edibles available. Cauliflower, cabbage, chillies and onions are cultivated on the outskirts of Kodaikanal.
